Marubeni CorporationMarubeni Corporation first became a major shareholder of JPS in 2007 when it purchased 80% of the shares of the Company from US-based Mirant Corporation. Subsequent to that, it shared its majority stake with the Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA), from 2009 to early 2011. Today, Marubeni and Korea East-West Power Company Ltd., now each hold 40% of JPS shares, the Government of Jamaica retains 19.9%, while the remaining less than 1%, is held by private shareholders. Marubeni has several overseas interests but still remains committed to the development and growth of the Jamaica Public Service Company.

Marubeni Corporation was founded in 1858 and the company has become one of Japan's leading enterprises, Marubeni operates in 74 countries and is involved in the handling of products and provision of services in a broad range of sectors. These areas encompass importing and exporting good and services on a global scale. The corporation is also involved in energy and power distribution activities in different regions across the world. Marubeni investment activities also extend to industrial machinery, finance, logistics and information industry, and real estate development and construction. Additionally, Marubeni conducts business investment, development and management on a global level.
