JPS RATES
JPS RATES FOR COMMERCIAL & INDUSTRIAL CUSTOMERS
JPS’ rates are set by the Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR). The following rate categories are applicable to Commercial and Industrial customers depending on the type and size of business that you operate. For full details of the rules and rates pertaining to each category, please refer to 2009 Approved Tariff Schedule.
- Rate 20 – General Service (Small Commercial)
- Rate 40 – Low Voltage (Large Commercial & Industrial)
- Rate 40A/48 – Low Voltage (Commercial & Industrial)
- Rate 50 - Medium Voltage (Large Commercial & Industrial)
- Time of Use Rates
- Standby Schedule
Rate 20 – GENERAL SERVICE
This rate is applicable to customers other than residential households with a demand profile less than 25 kilovolt-amperes (kVA):
- Charges are as follows:
- Customer charge. This is a fixed charge whether there is consumption or not which is a contribution towards the cost of providing the service.
- Energy Charge. This is the non-fuel costs that vary with consumption and is measured in kilowatt-hours (KWh).
- Fuel and Independent Power Producer (IPP) Charge. This is the total cost of fuel that includes the cost of fuel for energy purchased from the IPPs that is required to produce and deliver for each kilowatt-hour of electricity. This charge depends on the energy utilization of your facility over the billing period.
- Foreign Exchange Adjustment. All charges except the Fuel and IPP charges are subject to an adjustment depending on the movement of the Jamaican to US exchange rate.
- Metering will be via socket-type meters, at Secondary voltages as follows:
- Single Phase - 110/220 Volts, 50 Hz,
- Three Phase - 220 Volts, Delta, 50 Hz
- Three Phase - 240/415 Volts, Wye (Star), 50 Hz
RATE 40 – LOW VOLTAGE
This rate is applicable to customers other than residential households with a demand profile greater than 25 kilovolt-amperes (kVA).
- Charges are as follows:
- Customer charge – a fixed charge whether there is consumption or not which is a contribution towards the cost of providing the service.
- Energy Charge – This is the non-fuel costs that vary with consumption and is measured in kilowatt-hours (KWh).
- Demand Charge – Refers to the peak instantaneous power (lasting 15 minutes or longer) supplied to the metering point over the billing period and is measured in kilovolt Amperes (kVA). The applicable charge rate is applied to the highest value in a six-month window including the billing period.
- Fuel and Independent Power Producer (IPP) Charge – is the total cost of fuel that includes the cost of fuel for energy purchased from the IPPs that is required to produce and deliver for each kilowatt-hour of electricity. This charge depends on the energy utilization of your facility over the billing period.
- Foreign Exchange Adjustment - All charges except the Fuel and IPP charges are subject to an adjustment depending on the movement of the Jamaican to US exchange rate.
- Metering will be via socket-type meters or Three Phase meters, at Secondary voltages as follows:
- Single Phase, 110/220 Volts, 50 Hz
- Three Phase, 220 Volts, Delta, 50 Hz
- Three Phase, 240/415 Volts, Wye (Star), 50 Hz
- Transformer Ownership: In this rate category, JPS owns the supply transformer and all metering is on the secondary of the supply transformer.
Rate 40A – No longer available for new applications
The tariff makes mention of Rate 40 A or Rate 48 Low Voltage. This is a special tariff regime for which no new applications are being accepted. However, JPS continues to service the existing customers in this Rate Category.
Rate 50 – Power Service Medium Voltage
- Metering will be via Three Phase metering, at Primary voltages as follows:
- Single Phase, 110/220 Volts, 50 Hz
- Three Phase, 220 Volts, Delta, 50 Hz
- Three Phase, 240/415 Volts, Wye (Star), 50 Hz
- Three Phase, 13.8/23.9 kV, Wye (Star), 50Hz
- Three Phase, 13.8 kV, Delta, 50Hz
- Three Phase, 11.95 kV, Wye (Star), 50Hz
- Utilizing three-phase metering.
- Transformer Ownership: The Rate 50 category is applicable for customers who own and maintain their Transformer and all metering is on the Primary side of the transformer.
TIME OF USE RATES
The Time-of-Use facility was established to encourage large customers to move some of their operations to the off-peak or partial peak period to improve their load factor and realize savings, as well as reduce the demand for on-peak energy. Hence, rates for the off-peak and partial-peak periods are therefore lower.
The time-of use periods are as follows:
| On-Peak | Monday - Friday | 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. |
| Partial-Peak | Monday-Friday | 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Weekends and public holidays 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. |
| Off-Peak | Monday – Friday | 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. On weekends and public holidays all hours except 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., |

STANDBY SCHEDULE
This rate is applicable for standby service to customer with a minimum demand of 25 kilovolt-amperes (kVA), who own and operate power production equipment or other sources of power to meet their own power requirements and in addition contract to take supply from the Company at one location through one meter at a single point of delivery, on a firm basis. Service will be provided upon execution of the appropriate Contract for Standby Services. Service in excess of the firm contracted reserve capacity may be provided at the sole discretion of the Company, based on the availability of the supply
STANDBY CLASS
