All 4 Wind Turbines for new Wind Power Plant Now Installed

The Jamaica Public Service Company Ltd. (JPS) is reporting that all four wind turbines for its new Wind Power Plant have now been erected. The wind power plant, which is located in Munro St. Elizabeth, has now entered the testing phase, to ensure that it is operationally ready to add an average of 3 megawatts of electricity to the national grid.

Chairman of JPS, Tomofumi Fukuda, who toured the facility shortly after all turbines were erected, commented on the first wind power plant to be owned by the utility: "The Company is pleased to continue its expansion of the use of renewable energy sources, as it seeks to provide the Jamaican public with a secure and economic energy supply."

The Munro Wind Farm, is the second renewable energy supply to be installed in under a year, with the Company having recommissioned the Constant Spring Hydroelectric Power Station, in December 2009.

The Munro project, which is costing the utility approximately J$800M, provided employment for roughly 100 local personnel, and was completed on time and within budget.

Commissioning of the new wind power plant is scheduled for next month.
