CARILEC to host Renewable Energy Technologies & Generation Dispatch Optimization WorkshopsApril 24, 2012
The Caribbean Electric Utility Services Cooperation (CARILEC), in association with the Jamaica Public Service Company Limited (JPS), will be hosting two workshops on Renewable Energy Technologies and Generation Dispatch Optimization in Kingston between May 7 and May 11.
The main objectives of the workshops are to train and build the capacity of participants as it relates to renewable energy developments and generation dispatch optimization techniques. Specifically, the Renewable Energy Technologies workshop will: bring the participants up-to-speed on the fundamental aspects of renewable energy initiatives; discuss renewable energy market developments; highlight the required regulatory and economic policies; and examine the requirements for interconnecting renewable energy to the electricity grid.
The Generation Dispatch Optimization Workshop will: furnish the participants with knowledge of different power generation technologies; provide an overview of planning criteria for power generation dispatching; and facilitate an appreciation of best practices as it relates to power generation dispatching
The workshops are being conducted as part of the Capacity Building component of the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Project for CARILEC. The project, which began in 2009, is funded by the Inter-American Development Bank and is being implemented over a three-year period. The project is geared at enhancing CARILEC's capability to assist its members in improving their efficiencies and promoting the use of renewable energy technologies and alternative fuels in the Caribbean region.
