The JPS Meter Testing Lab and Calibration Centre has now received the internationally recognized ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation from the Jamaica National Agency for Accreditation (JANAAC).  The award ceremony took place on Friday May 11, making the JPS Meter Testing Lab, only the 3rd organization in Jamaica to receive an award from JANAAC.  

This development comes as good news to JPS customers, who can now be assured that the results of meter tests are accurate and traceable.  The Meter Testing Lab tests meters that are brought in for investigation, and certifies the equipment which is used on meter tests that are conducted in the field.  The lab is also used to test meters that are earmarked for distribution.

The accreditation confirms the lab's competence for the following: 

Registration accuracy of kilowatt-hour meters;

Registration accuracy of Laboratory and Field Meter Tests; and

Accuracy of Watt-hour Reference Standard.

Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Hon. Anthony Hylton, speaking at the award ceremony, commended JPS on this achievement.  He also expressed the hope that going forward, consumer confidence and relations with the utility would be improved, even as JPS seeks to improve other aspects of its operations.

JPS Chairman, Hisatsugu Hirai, in receiving the award, noted that the accreditation was a critical part of the foundation being laid to transform JPS into a world class power provider.  He added that the JPS Vision 2016 sees the Company setting performance standards and goals that result in heightened stakeholder engagement, improved service delivery and enhanced customer experiences.  

  

The other two organizations which have received accreditation from JANAAC, are the Scientific Research Council (for their Analytical Services Department) and Environmental Solutions Limited, (for their Quality and Environmental Health Laboratory).  JANAAC is a member of the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC).
