GEI CERTIFICATION
If you need a contract for electricity service and your premises did not have power before, or the service had been disconnected for more than one year, you must have the wiring checked by a private licensed electrician and certified by the Government Electrical Inspector (GEI).
You will also need GEI certification if you are:
- Expanding your building
- Installing additional electrical outlets
- Adjusting your electrical wiring
- Rewiring after a fire or other disaster
The GEI ensures that the wiring is done according to the specific procedures and standards set by the Government. The law requires that a GEI certificate be presented before we can connect electricity.
Please allow for the fact that it takes up to 15 business days before the GEI submits the certificate to JPS.
You're not only complying with the law when you get GEI certification – you're also protecting life and property.
